Dr. Davis can perform an Endodontic (root canal) treatment to save a tooth that is decayed or injured.

What is a root canal?

A common misconception is that a root canal is a painful procedure. Actually, root canals are similar to having a cavity filled, producing minimal pain.

During root canal therapy, the pulp of a tooth, which contains the nerves, connective tissues and blood vessels, is removed. Because the pulp tissue is diseased or injured, it dies, resulting in infection. If the pulp tissue is not removed, the tooth will have to be extracted.

Dr. Davis can perform a root canal to avoid permanent removal of the tooth structure.

What is treatment like?

Typically, root canal treatment requires one to three visits. Initially, an opening is created through the crown of the tooth to reach the pulp. After the pulp tissue is removed, the root canal(s) is cleaned and shaped. Medications may be used to get rid of germs and hinder infection.

Dr. Davis will place a temporary filling to protect the tooth between visits. Once the pulp chamber and root canal(s) are filled and sealed, a crown restoration is necessary to make the tooth stronger.
